There are indications that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may sanction the member of the House of Representatives representing Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State, Leke Abejide, over alleged anti-party activity.
The ADC national chairman, Ralphs Okey Nwosu, in a statement, on Tuesday, said the party has set up a panel to probe Abejide for alleged anti-party activity.
The lawmaker, who was ADC candidate for last year’s Kogi State governorship election, had on Monday, publicly disagreed with the party leadership over the planned bad governance protest.
Abejide during a press conference had distanced himself from the stance of the ADC leadership on the planned protest. And threatened to dump the party if gives troubles.
Nevertheless, Nwosu stated that the Abejide’s Monday press conference, where he disagreed with the ADC leadership, was intended to disparage the party because of its position on national issues as an opposition party.
The ADC chairman said “We have set up a committee led by Dr. Bamidele Ganiyu Ajadi, the Deputy National Chairman (Politics) of our great party to look into the shenanigans going on to enable us to apply the arm of the law justly”.
In another development, Nwosu said that in the aftermath of the Supreme Court judgment on financial autonomy for local government councils, the ADC will participate in all local council elections in the country.
Consequently, he disclosed that the party has constituted a, committee on Local Councils Elections”to schedule, strategise and supervise all LGA elections in all the states of the country.”
“We appeal to all stakeholders at subnational level especially the state governors to ensure that all the democratic processes are conducted in an atmosphere of impartiality,” Nwosu said.
