The Action Peoples Party ( APP) has called on the people of Rivers State to turn out en masse for the October 5 local government elections in the state.
The APP, in a statement by its National Chairman, Chief Uche Nnadi, charged the police not to allow itself to be used to scuttle the exercise.
The October 5 Rivers State local government elections has been generating controversy with a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt and Abuja giving conflicting rulings. Nevertheless, the Rivers State governor, Siminalaiyi Fubara said the polls will go ahead as scheduled.
Nnadi said “our party’s National Working Committee endorses RSIEC’s decision to proceed with the election in obedience to Justice I.P.C. Igwe’s judgment, which mandates the Commission to conduct the election on Saturday, October 5th, 2024. Our party obtained that judgment, and we have a right to enjoy its benefits.”
“The RSIEC is under the command of a judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction to conduct the said election, and the Police cannot interfere with that order.”
The APP chairman, while imploring voters in the state to vote for the candidates of their choice, expressed optimism that his party will emerge victorious.
Moreover, Nnadi disowned a group of persons in Rivers State, purporting to be the leadership of the opposition party in the state.
The APP leader, while affirming that the chairman of Rivers State chapter of the party is Chief Sunny Nwokekoro, charged the police to arrest and prosecute anyone founding impersonating the party leadership in the state.
