The Ibom Youths Alliance for Peoples Democratic Party (IYAPDP) has commended the national chairman, Umar Damagum, and the party’s National Working Committee ( NWC) for dissolving the party executive in the state.
The IYAPDP, in a statement by its national coordinator, David Effiong, said the action of the PDP leadership has rescued the Akwa Ibom chapter. The group also commended the NWC for upholding the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP especially Section 10 (6) which bars members of the PDP from aligning with any other political party at any level.
The PDP NWC, after a meeting, last week, dissolved the State Working Committee ( SWC) of the Akwa Ibom State chapter and constituted a caretaker committee to manage the affair of the opposition party in the state, pending the conduct of congresses to elect new leadership.
A statement by the PDP national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba noted that “ the NWC approved the composition of a Caretaker Committee to run the affairs of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of our Party from today, Tuesday, September 30th, 2025 for a period not exceeding 3 months, or until such a time a new State Executive Committee will be elected in the State.
“The NWC calls on all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of our Party in Akwa Ibom State to remain united and continue to work together for the progress of the Party.”
The dissolution is a fall out of the recent defection of the Akwa Ibom governor, Umo Eno, to the All Progressives Congress ( APC) alongside key government functionaries and some PDP members.
The youths while pledging their support and loyalty to the 31-man caretaker committee led by Igwat Umoren-led Akwa Ibom State Caretaker Committee, urged the committee to take urgent steps to further unite and strengthen the PDP in the state.
